Dubai set to receive 'world-class' train link between airports
The transport infrastructure in Dubai could be set for a significant boost with the construction of a new technologically-advanced rail line running between Dubai International Airport and Jebel Ali Airport, according to a new report.
Economic analysis firm Oxford Business Group claims that the 49km Purple Line rail route will cost approximately $2.73 billion (£1.37 billion) and will entail a completely electronic system, without the need for a driver.
The fully-automated train will also be designed to achieve maximum integration with the area's existing transport system, the report notes.
Adnan al-Hammadi, director of construction for the project, is quoted by Oxford Business Group as having told an industry magazine: "So far around 30% of the work has been completed. The work currently is approximately on schedule and all the parties are committed to accomplish the project in time."
Dubai and the UAE is currently undergoing a major economic restructuring to help it diversify away from oil revenues. This involves improving the infrastructure for tourists, which could prove beneficial for property investors in the region.
