Disillusioned Britons head abroad

Many Britons have become so disenchanted with life in the UK that they are packing their bags and heading overseas, new research has found.

A study by Robinsons International revealed that a frustration regarding various facets of British life has resulted in a record number of people choosing to move overseas.

According to the removal firm, many prospective expatriates are highly aggrieved with the recent increases in living costs in the UK.

Meanwhile, many of those who are planning to move abroad were said to be particularly disillusioned with the performance of the government, especially prime minister Gordon Brown.

The rising population of the UK was also cited as a source of contention, along with the pressures of work.

Anthony Robinson, managing director of Robinsons International, commented: "It's perhaps not surprising that so many people are looking for the better standard of living offered by other countries."

According to the Office for National Statistics, more than 200,000 UK nationals moved abroad during 2006.

The organisation highlighted Spain and France as two of the most popular destinations.
