Cyprus tourists advised on currency conversion
People who are travelling to Cyprus in the next few months have been advised that they still have time to convert their old currency.
The Mediterranean island adopted the euro on New Year's Day, leading to some confusion among holidaymakers about what to do with their outstanding Cyprus pounds.
However, Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green stated that these people can change their money free of charge until the end of June.
In addition, he said that there was a parallel circulation of both pounds and euros during January in order to facilitate a smooth changeover.
Mr Green commented: "Scouring your sock draws for any leftover Cypriot notes or coins won't be in vain, as it will still be easy to exchange the old currency for the euro for a little while yet."
The island's entry into the euro came almost four years after it became a member of the European Union.
