Cyprus tourist officials aim to attract more visitors

Officials in Cyprus have drawn up a series of measures designed to attract more visitors to the island.

The Mediterranean country has become a highly popular destination among British tourists and property investors, resulting in numerous economic benefits.

Therefore, the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA) has suggested that the island engages in more promotional activity that focuses on its unique strengths and attributes.

Writing in the Financial Mirror, ACTA general manager Thassos Katsourides commented: "Marketing must be intensified to acquire a special identity, so that Cyprus will be different from similar destinations."

In addition, he stated that niche areas should also be expanded, such as sports tourism and boosting visitor numbers at historical sites.

Mr Katsourides added that Britons accounted for more than half of the tourists visiting the island.

The comments come after Panos Englezos, chairman of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, told the Cyprus Mail that the number of holidaymakers coming from countries such as the UK, Russia and France was higher than last year.
