Croatian EU talks 'to restart'
An agreement has been reached between the European Union (EU) and Croatia to widen talks regarding the country's possible entry into the union.
The country will aim to tackle a number of issues such as corruption and reform before instigating new talks.
Foreign minister of Croatia Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic stated that the country has specific goals and aims to be a part of the EU in the next couple of years.
"Our targets remain as we outlined ... the year 2009 is the year when we want to be ready for membership," he commented.
The whole process appears to be running smoothly and there are signs that Croatia's goals will be achieved, according to EU enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn.
A number of changes will have to be made to Croatian law before it can join the union, such as financial control regulations.
In related news, talks have restarted between EU officials and Turkey regarding the country's possible move to becoming a member state.
