Croatia 'to challenge established markets'
Tourist officials in Croatia want the country to present a stronger challenge to rival holiday destinations, a news provider has said.
The Southeast European Times said the nation was aiming to compete with establish markets such as Greece and Turkey by attracting more visitors and offering reasonably-priced holidays.
According to the publication, Croatia wants a bigger market share in order to set itself up as a "tourism superpower".
The newspaper commented: "Throughout south-east Europe, tourism is a vital industry, holding out the promise of economic growth and prosperity."
Many of the potential tourist attractions were highlighted, including the country's coastlines, mountain ranges and historical sites.
The publication added that authorities have opened the market up to foreign investors and developed new leisure facilities in some of its most attractive locations.
According to World Investment Services, property in eastern European markets could be highly lucrative purchases for overseas investors.
