Consumers taking shorter foreign holidays

People from the UK are increasingly opting to take shorter breaks overseas, according to new research.

A study by Holiday Inn found that more than half of all British families do not intend to take a 2-week holiday this summer.

Instead, many plan to take 3 or 4-day holidays abroad, as this will allow them to juggle their responsibilities at home and at work more effectively.

Furthermore, this means that people will be able to take more breaks overseas throughout the year.

Chris Hale, spokesman for Holiday Inn, commented: "Gone are the bad old days when people would save all year for their annual 2-week summer holiday at the busiest and most expensive period."

He added that consumers were becoming increasingly savvy, although reasons such as not being able to get enough time off work were highlighted as further reasons for this trend.

Earlier this week, online travel agency Lastminute.com predicted that Spain and Morocco would be two of the year's most popular holiday destinations.
