Consumers book summer holiday in January
Millions of Britons decided to book this year's summer holiday in January, new research has found.
A survey by TNS Travel and Tourism found that five million leisure travellers from the UK planned their trip abroad last month, reports Travel Weekly.
This works out to 16 per cent of the 30 million people who are heading overseas this year.
Tom Costley, head of travel and tourism at the group, highlighted a number of reasons for people booking so early, such as consumers not willing to take the chance of missing out on their preferred choice of destination.
In addition, he stated that many had arranged their holiday in January in order to give themselves something to look forward to throughout the year.
Last month, Irish newspaper the Kilkenny Advertiser suggested that booking a holiday in the sun well in advance could help reduce the impact of the "winter blues".
