Chasing a Tuscan property 'remains a popular British dream'
Britons still dream about obtaining properties in the idyllic surroundings of Tuscany, according to new claims from an industry body.
The Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP) said that "buying Tuscan farmhouse" is still very much on the agenda of UK property investors, thanks to the enduring familiarity of the area.
And while Tuscany has "nothing like the market share of Spain", the association stated that the well-established nature of Tuscany as an overseas investment destination puts it into a similar category as the Portuguese and Spanish markets.
Paul Owen, chief executive of the AIPP, explained: "People know what it's about, they've been there, they know what they're going to get, they know how to get there."
He added that although Italy is not in itself a difficult place to buy property, it is "staggering" that so many Britons attempt to do so without legal advice from an independent lawyer.
Recently, About.com writer Martha Bakerjian urged visitors to Tuscany to explore some of the region's smaller villages, which often contain the best wines and local cuisine.
