Capital of culture 'will increase demand for Istanbul holidays'
Turkey is to become even more popular among tourists as a result of Istanbul's status as next year's European capital of culture.
That is the suggestion of Irfan Onal, director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, who explained that the city has already seen a 2.4% increase in visitors for the first nine months of the year - with 4.18 million arrivals.
Buy-to-let property investors may be poised to benefit from the rise, particularly as Mr Onal highlighted the attractiveness of the country to British tourists.
"Being outside the eurozone and with the Turkish lira offering great value against the euro, Turkey is an affordable year-round holiday destination," he said, noting that the area around Antalya is good for winter sun.
Figures from the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office have shown that 26 million people from around the world visited the country last year, with that level expected to reach 33 million by 2012.
