Businesses in Turkey 'doing well'

A number of Turkish businesses flourished in 2006, according to new figures released by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO).

The body announced the results of the ISO top 500 industrial enterprises survey, which showed a strong economic situation in the country, reports Today's Zaman.

Last year was a good one for firms in Turkey, the organisation stated, with firms reaching high levels of success.

The largest industrial firm in the country remains Turkish Petroleum Refineries Corporation, which posted 18.67 billion YTL (£7.17 billion) in production-based sales.

Additionally, the first 50 firms on the list had a 45% share among the 500 in terms of production-based sales, exports and gross-added value.

Moreover, the profitability of the firms in terms of sales was 5.9% in 2006, the report found.

In related news, the second phase of the mortgage system in the country has been completed in Turkey, according to an official at the capital market board.
