Bulgarian real estate still an investment opportunity
Bulgaria has seen billions of pounds worth of foreign investment since the early 1990s, according to figures from the Bulgarian National Bank and Finance Ministry - but the country has yet to reach its investment peak.
Austrian companies have invested most highly, injecting Ôé¼3 billion (~£2 billion) in the last 15 years with the Netherlands and Greece second and third, both investing around half that figure, InvestBulgaria has revealed.
The United Kingdom was also in the top 10, and 90% of British investment was in the real estate market.
Since 1992, most foreign investment in Bulgaria has been in the property market, the Sofia Echo reports, and a recent Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors report will not have dampened interest in the market.
It showed Bulgaria to have some of the fastest rising house prices in Europe, experiencing 20% growth in 2006.
Stoyan Stalev, executive director of InvestBulgaria, asserted that there is still investment potential in the country, although short-term investment in infrastructure is needed.
