Bulgarian property market experiencing growth

House prices in Bulgaria have increased by more than a third in the last year, according to new figures.

Research by Knight Frank found that during the 12 months to quarter three of 2007, property values in the country rose by 30.6%.

This is the largest increase recorded in the world and indicative of a wider trend across eastern Europe.

For example, property values in Croatia in rose by 12.1% during this period, while prices also went up in Lithuania and Latvia.

Commenting on the findings, Knight Frank said: "Bulgaria has supplanted the previously top performing Baltic hotspot."

The organisation added that the Bansko ski resort was one of the most popular property markets in the country, as it was a major tourist destination.

Bulgaria will mark its first anniversary as a full member of the European Union on January 1st 2008.
