Bulgaria 'to double road repair money'

The transport network is set to receive a boost in Bulgaria after it was announced that more money is to be spent on road repairs in 2008.

Regional development minister in the country Assen Gagauzov said that the country will spend 500 million euros (£338 million) on making improvements to the infrastructure next year, reports novinite.com.

In the news that may be of interest to potential property investors, the official stated that the finances will be ploughed into mending about 2,500 to 3,000km of existing routes.

Moreover, the entire road network is set to be renovated in the next 4-5 years, according to Focus Information Agency.

The amount being spent of the work is around twice more than that spent this year.

In related news, the transport minister in Bulgaria Petar Moutafchev recently stated that he expects the European Union to approve the operational transport programme that could see increased funds to improve the country's network.
