Bulgaria expecting FDI boom

Invest Bulgaria Agency (IBA) has predicted the level of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bulgaria will exceed 5 billion euros (£3.5 billion) for 2007, according to Investor.BG.

The IBA figures were presented at the United Nations conference on trade and development (UNCTAD) annual report, the Sofia Echo reported.

They revealed that foreign investment in the country was 4.4 billion euros in 2006, 95% of which was greenfield investment.

Some 35% was invested in real estate while 25% was via production activities.

Bulgaria was listed seventh in the world in terms of its FDI/GDP ratio in 2006 and is expected to do as well in 2007, the report said.

Established in 1964, UNCTAD aims to help the integration of developing countries into the world economy.
