Budget airline expands French operations

Budget airline easyJet has announced plans to expand its presence at two major airports in France.

The carrier will open new bases at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Lyon airport in early 2008, allowing it to offer a greater number of services to travellers.

Passenger numbers through French airports have been tipped to reach 6 million this year, while this figure is expected to rise to 8 million after the new bases are opened.

The firm said this was part of long-term growth strategy for France, reflecting its importance among both business and leisure travellers, as well as overseas property investors.

Andy Harrison, chief executive of easyJet, commented: "Today's announcement is just the first step in our major investment that will see us double our presence in France by 2011."

Last month, HiFX said areas that were well-served by low-cost airlines were likely to be good investment spots, as the resulting surge of interest often led to local property values increasing.
