Budget airline boosts French presence
Overseas property buyers may be tempted to invest in France following the introduction of new flights to Paris.
Low-cost airline easyjet launched its new base in the French capital last week, a move which further opens up the market to prospective investors.
The carrier is currently in the middle of a four-year expansion programme which will see it become the second-largest airline in France.
It is hoped that this will result in passenger numbers doubling from six million last year to 12 million in 2011.
Commenting on the move, easyjet chief executive Andy Harrison said: "With a low-cost penetration that is half the European average, France's air transport market still suffers from a lack of affordable, direct air links."
This will be followed up by the opening of a new base in Lyon, which easyJet says "underlines" the country's importance as one of its "key growth markets".
France has recently attracted considerable attention from British investors as a result of the introduction of a high-speed rail link between London and Paris.
Eurostar's new service allows people to travel between the two cities in two hours and 15 minutes.
