Brits 'still want overseas property'

The results of a new survey show that economic problems have not dampened the demand for overseas property among British people.

Carried out by Homes Overseas magazine in association with Barclays, the study reveals that 40% of UK people either already own or intend to purchase a home in a foreign country.

France was found to be the most popular choice for a second property location, with just under 26% naming the country as their preferred destination, while almost 25% identified Spain as their country of choice.

Marc Da-Silva, editor of Homes Overseas, commented: "Brits still have a large appetite for homes abroad, and why not?

"The global property market slowdown should definitely be perceived as a window of opportunity to negotiate a property deal at a bargain basement price."

Other destinations found to be popular with overseas buyers in the UK included Portugal, Italy and Dubai.

A recent survey from Alliance & Leicester International revealed that properties owned by British people in France receive the highest number of visits from friends and family members.
