Britons to head abroad over school holidays

British consumers are set to take advantage of the forthcoming school holidays and head overseas, a travel firm has revealed.

According to Lastminute.com, many families want to escape the "freezing" conditions in the UK and escape to sunnier climes.

Some schools have staggered their holidays as a result of this year's early Easter, which has given some people an extra opportunity to head abroad.

The online travel agency highlighted Turkey as one of the most popular destinations for British families, in particular Bodrum and Antalya.

John Bevan, managing director of Lastminute.com, said: "The unusually cold weather has led to incredible demand for late Easter sun holidays."

He added that the level of bookings for April have been "exceptional", a development which means that tourist accommodation will be in very high demand.

This could explain why Holiday-Rentals observed a 40% increase in the number of people buying property in Turkey last year.
