Britons take shorter breaks abroad
Many people in the UK are choosing to take shorter holidays this year, a new poll has revealed.
According to online travel agency ebookers, only 27% of respondents are planning to spend a fortnight overseas, while 22% plan to be away for less than a week.
This has been attributed to recent economic problems in the UK and Europe, including the credit crunch and the weakness of the pound against the euro.
Financial concerns have also led to many consumers putting off making a booking in the hope of getting a reduced price later on.
Claire Howard Jones, head of marketing at ebookers, said these people may end up being disappointed.
She commented: "Smart travellers know the best prices in the travel industry are mostly available to early bookers."
This comes after MSN Money suggested that British holidaymakers could save money by venturing beyond the eurozone.
