Britons take city breaks in eastern Europe
British consumers are increasingly choosing to head to eastern Europe for city breaks, a travel firm has revealed.
According to Holidays-Direct.co.uk, the region is becoming more and more popular with leisure travellers from the UK.
This is despite the continued popularity of established locations such as Rome, Barcelona and Venice, which suggests that eastern Europe is becoming increasingly competitive.
Furthermore, this could mean that demand for rental accommodation in major conurbations in places such as Bucharest is getting stronger.
Commenting on the findings, Jon Pearce of Holidays-Direct said: "There is so much to discover and they are so different from cities in western and southern Europe."
He added that these destinations have a number of historical and cultural attractions that could keep people busy for an extended period of time.
This comes after London Luton Airport reported that the introduction of direct flights to eastern Europe have helped its annual passenger numbers to pass ten million for the first time in its history.
