Britons snap up late summer deals
A holiday provider has witnessed a surge in the number of bookings in the UK over the last few days.
According to online travel agent On the Beach, reservations for trips abroad have gone up by more than a quarter in the last week.
This has been attributed to a number of factors, such as the disappointing weather in the UK, as well as the fact that many people will have just been paid.
Turkey was highlighted as a particularly popular destination, with more than a third of people in the north of England heading there for a break.
Consumers in Scotland were also found to be especially keen to visit the country, as more than one in five people have booked a holiday there.
Simon Cooper, chief executive of On the Beach, commented: "Whilst the credit crunch is impacting millions of consumers across the country, many of our customers are not willing to give up their hard earned holidays but are of course looking for real value-for-money."
The Association of British Travel Agents recently revealed that the number of summer bookings for trips to Turkey has gone up by 20 per cent this year.
