Britons plan holidays despite economic crisis

Growing economic uncertainty is not stopping consumers from booking trips abroad, new research has found.

According to Kayak.co.uk, the continuing credit crisis has led to concern within the travel industry about a possible slowdown in consumer spending.

However, a survey by the website showed that these concerns could be largely unfounded, as nearly two-thirds of respondents said they are not going to change their summer holiday plans this year.

Tourists stated that instead of depriving themselves of a trip abroad, they would attempt to offset the financial impact by cutting back elsewhere.

For example, some respondents said they would take less luggage in order to avoid paying excess baggage fees, while others stated that they would avoid eating out and cook their own meals instead.

Annie Wilson of Kayak.co.uk commented: "Last summer was one of the wettest on record and it's clear that sun-starved Brits value summer holidays far too highly to do without."

This comes after research by MyChild.co.uk found that taking a summer holiday with the children is a priority for most mums and dads, despite the credit crisis and rising living costs.
