Britons opting for driving holidays

Tourists from the UK are planning to save costs by going on driving holidays, according to a new study.

Research by AA Personal Loans found that three out of four British consumers intend to use their car during their summer break.

Some respondents said they were opting to shun aircraft this year because they are concerned about the impact this has on the environment.

Others said they wanted to avoid the stress of passing through an airport, although financial worries seemed to be the main motivating factor.

For example, some respondents said going on a driving holiday is cheaper than travelling further afield.

Indeed, the Buy Association recently predicted that rising oil prices could force airlines to push up the cost of flying abroad within the next year.

Earlier this week, property editor Paul Collins stated that this will result in people taking holidays closer to home in places which are accessible by other means.
