Britons choosing to live abroad

A growing number of people from the UK are choosing to live overseas, a newspaper has revealed.

According to the Metro, more and more British nationals are packing their bags and moving abroad, with 250,000 people leaving during 2007 alone.

This, it stated, is 20% higher than the amount recorded 12 months earlier.

A poll by the newspaper highlighted a number of factors behind this trend, including both financial and lifestyle issues.

For example, more than half of all respondents cited the high cost of living in Britain as one of the main reasons for moving abroad, while one in three complained about high taxes and the price of property in the UK.

Meanwhile, 49% blamed Britain's poor weather for driving them overseas, and 32% said they left because of current crime levels.

This comes after property analyst ShelterOffshore.com said the UK is currently experiencing a "mass exodus".
