British youngsters 'want to move abroad'

Nearly three-quarters of young people in the UK would like to relocate to another country, according to a new study.

A government-commissioned poll revealed that many 11 to 18-year-olds in Britain are keen to live and work in places such as Spain, Italy and France.

Other European countries including Portugal and Germany were also named as popular destinations.

Almost two-thirds of respondents said they were drawn to these countries by the prospect of better weather.

However, more than half cited financial considerations such as lower living costs as their main reason for wanting to emigrate.

Jim Knight, minister for schools, commented: "It's fantastic to see the next generation of young people are hoping to spread their wings and strengthen Britain's links to the rest of the world."

This comes after a poll by NatWest revealed that 81% of British expatriates feel happier now that they live outside the UK.
