British retirees move to Portugal
Portugal is proving to be one of the most popular retirement destinations for Britons, according to ShelterOffshore.com.
Analysts at the website stated that British retirees have been drawn there by its warm climate, affordable living costs and the healthy lifestyle on offer.
The Algarve was flagged up a particular favourite, as it benefits from having easy access to Faro airport which is used by low-cost air carriers.
Britons can appreciate the stunning landscape and variety of golf clubs, while house prices have risen as a result of its appeal to international visitors.
The website has advised that those who wish to purchase affordable property in Portugal should consider northern parts of the country.
ShelterOffshore.com said: "The best rules of thumb to apply to your property search are move away from the coastline, head north from the Algarve and even consider buying a house or an apartment inland.
The Times recently cited figures from the Portuguese Real Estate Association showing that 18,000 Britons purchased a home in the country last year.
