British migrants 'not leaving in protest'
People who choose to move abroad are not doing so in protest at the state of the UK, according to a media report.
Lesley Thomas of the Telegraph stated that those who had emigrated in recent years had not done so because of issues such as tax and the standard of public services in Britain.
Speaking after official figures revealed that the number of people moving abroad increased last year, she said that other factors had driven this trend.
For example, she stated that several generations of people had now grown up with foreign travel as a normal fact of life.
Ms Thomas commented: "The globe has become a smaller, less intimidating place.
"Living abroad simply isn't a big deal any more."
She added that developments such as the Channel Tunnel and budget airlines had also contributed, as other countries were now highly accessible.
Last week, the Office for National Statistics published new figures showing that more than 200,000 UK citizens chose to leave the country and live abroad permanently last year.
