British buyers dominate French market
France is proving to be a particularly popular destination among British property buyers, new figures have revealed.
According to the French tourism ministry, 28% of foreigners who own property in the country hail from the UK.
This puts them ahead of the Italians, who were said to account for 14% of buyers from overseas.
France was also found to be highly popular with people from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Meanwhile, figures showed that the overall number of foreign nationals investing in the French market has gone up considerably over the last decade.
The statistics said approximately 300,000 people from abroad now own a property in France - 50% more than in 1997.
This comes after research by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors revealed that house prices in France went up by 3% last year.
