Brazilian tourism sector continues to grow
Tourism officials in Brazil have revealed that global financial problems are not impacting on the number of incoming visitors.
According to tourism institute Embratur, the South American country has experienced further growth in its holiday industry this year, reports Xinhua.
Indeed, figures from the organisation showed that the number of visitors between January and September was 20% up on the amount recorded during the same period of 2007.
This means that the economy is continuing to reap the economic rewards of an expanding tourism sector, while other groups such as owners of rental accommodation for holidaymakers are also benefiting.
Commenting on the findings, Embratur president Jeanine Pires said they show how Brazil has become of one of the world's leading tourist destinations.
This, she added, is partly because the tourism sector has handled its affairs in a professional and mature manner.
The comments come shortly after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Brazil will become a "key tourist destination" within the next 10 to 15 years.
