Brazil plans major infrastructure upgrades
Authorities in Brazil are planning to carry out a number of infrastructure improvements ahead of the football World Cup.
The South American country will host the tournament for the second time in 2014, which gives the government 6 years to prepare.
Tourism minister Marta Suplicy revealed that several ideas are already under consideration, including plans to build a bullet train between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
In addition, the government is also considering a proposal to boost air traffic in the country, reports the International Herald Tribune.
Ms Suplicy commented: "The 2014 World Cup is a great opportunity for the country to raise its visibility before the world."
According to former Brazilian international Antonio Lopes, the tournament is likely to have a positive impact on the nation.
Speaking to Reuters, the ex-footballer said Brazil will benefit both financially and economically.
