Brazil 'attracting more foreign visitors'

The number of people visiting Brazil this year has gone up, according to the country's tourism institute.

Embratur stated that the South American nation attracted 552,520 foreign nationals during October 2007, reports Brazzil Mag.

This is 15.2% higher than the figure recorded exactly 12 months earlier.

Since the data indicates growth in Brazil's tourist market, the organisation has predicted that the overall number of visitors for this year will be larger than that in 2006, during which 6.4 million people arrived in the country.

The figures suggest that Embratur's efforts to promote Brazil as a holiday destination at events such as travel fairs are paying off.

Marcelo Pedroso, business and events director at the institute, said: "The fairs promote a positive image of Brazil in foreign countries and broaden the scope of business opportunities for our country,"

This follows recent comments from Samuel Lieber of the Alpine International Real Estate Equity Fund, who told Bloomberg that the country was becoming a highly popular choice among foreign property investors.
