Black Sea countries look to improve EU ties
Members of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) have met in order to strengthen ties with the European Union (EU) in Turkey.
Foreign ministers suggested that the organisation is crucial as it connects member countries and could ultimately strengthen the overall standing of the region, reports the Turkish daily News.
The EU has been granted observer status, something that the BSEC hopes will lead to better partnerships and closer ties with Europe.
In addition, the areas focussed on for improvement were the environment, energy provision and transportation, all things that could impact upon investment in the member countries.
A declaration stated that more could be done in order to improve activities in the region.
"This will facilitate a closer BSEC-EU interaction that may establish new partnership and lead to the creation of appropriate instruments for the implementation of agreed projects and activities in a regional format," it stated.
Members of BSEC include Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Romania. The body was instigated in order to promote harmony in the region and help economic stability.
