Bad weather triggers exodus in Scotland

The poor weather in Scotland is prompting many local people to look at jetting off overseas.

Travel agents revealed that thousands of people in the area were ringing in enquiring about cheap deals to hot and sunny locations outside of the UK.

Jackie Sindlay, manager of the King World Travel's Paisley branch, said that Turkey was proving to be especially popular with Scottish consumers, along with Spain.

Speaking to the Paisley Daily Express, she commented: "People just seem to be fed-up with the bad weather we’ve had over the past year."

Ms Sindlay added that last month had been the busiest December on record.

This echoes recent comments from the Association of British Travel Agents, which said that a growing number of people were choosing to spend January overseas.

The organisation stated that about two-thirds of leisure travellers were heading for sunny destinations, while the remaining third were opting for places with guaranteed snow.
