Albania aims to join EU
Albania could be bidding to join the European Union within the next decade, it has been revealed.
Ardian Fullani, governor of the Albanian Central Bank, said the eastern European nation wants to be a candidate for membership before 2018, reports Bloomberg.
The country is already working on projects such as infrastructure improvements in order to bolster its bid.
As a result, officials are optimistic that it will soon be considered for membership of the international body.
Mr Fullani commented: "This will happen in the next 10 years, for sure.
"Albania has this commitment and is going in the right direction to be a membership candidate.''
This could have a significant impact on its economy and potentially lead to more foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country.
According to Mr Fullani, FDI is likely to increase by 6% this year, as it is attracting more and more interest from businesses across the world.
This comes after NuBricks.com revealed that the Balkan country is developing into a hotspot for foreign property buyers.
