Airports handling more passengers
The number of people passing through BAA's airports in the UK went up last month, according to new figures.
Data from the organisation showed that it handled a total of 10.9 million passengers throughout December - 0.7% more than during the same period in 2006.
This means that the overall number of passengers who passed through UK airports in 2007 was almost 150 million.
Figures revealed that air traffic to Europe remained largely unchanged when compared with the previous year, although there was a 5.2% increase in the amount of people travelling to long-haul destinations, excluding North America.
This shows that while established European markets are maintaining their appeal, exotic locations away from the continent are becoming more popular.
The release of the figures comes after easyJet and Ryanair revealed that they both handled more passengers in December 2007 than they did 12 months earlier.
