Airport expansion 'widens choice for local people'
The expansion of Bristol International Airport has been credited with broadening the range of choices available to local people.
Tony Hallwood, aviation development director at Bristol International Airport, said that people living in the south-west had an "extensive range" of destinations to choose from, allowing them easier access to foreign destinations.
He highlighted Ryanair's recent announcement of new services to France as a positive step, describing it as "fantastic news" for local holidaymakers.
Mr Hallwood commented: "Time-consuming road and rail journeys to London's crowded airports will become a thing of the past for even more travellers in the region."
He added that businesses would also benefit from the greater range of services, as air travel was a "vital resource" for locally-based companies.
This week, Ryanair announced that would begin offering passage from Bristol to Bergerac (Dordogne), Beziers (Languedoc) and Pau (Pyrenees-Atlantiques) next month.
This should boost the accessibility of France to holidaymakers in the south-west of England, while also opening up new investment opportunities for foreign property buyers.
