Airport cites popularity of Spanish flights as reason for success

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has highlighted the enduring popularity of Spanish destinations as it released new figures indicating an increase in passenger traffic.

The UK's newest international airport revealed that three of its top five destinations are based in Spain - namely Tenerife, Malaga and Alicante.

Some 10,600 people passed through the airport over the Easter holidays - a 13% increase on the year before. This brings the total number of passengers to have used the airport to 1.75 million since April 2005.

David Ryall, managing director of Robin Hood Airport, explained: "The variety of destinations continues to grow and more passengers are flying on more flights, which shows we are growing organically along with our market."

He added that more routes will be added over the coming months in preparation for the summer season, when Spanish resorts are particularly popular destinations for British tourists.

In related airport news, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports have reported increased traffic levels, thanks partly to sporting events.
