Airline reports further growth
Low-cost airline Wizz Air has revealed that the number of people booking flights to eastern Europe went up in 2007.
According to the carrier, 4.2 million passengers booked passage on its routes last year - 40 per cent more than during 2006.
Wizz Air believes that its services will continue to attract strong demand this year, as it is aiming to push annual passenger numbers for 2008 over the 6 million mark.
The airline has become instrumental in opening up eastern Europe to leisure travellers and property buyers in recent years, as it has rolled out cheap flights to places such as Budapest and Sofia.
Jozsef Varadi, chief executive of the carrier, commented: "Wizz Air continues to win the hearts and minds of millions of passengers travelling in Europe."
He added that it is "well positioned" to become the dominant airline in central and eastern Europe in the near term.
This comes after BalkanInsight.com revealed that the Romanian government believes the number of people who visit the country's beaches this year will be 15 per cent up on 2007.
